Side-Wedge Grafting
This technique differs from the side veneer graft in that no tissue is removed from the rootstock. This method allows the cambium layer to be matched and callused on two sides, and is used for species with thin flexible bark, such as cedar (Cedrus), some juniper (Juniperus) and ericaceous plants.
Method
- A downward, slightly inward cut is made into the side of the stock, and then the scion is prepared by making two slightly sloping cuts at the base.
- The scion is then inserted into the cut on the stock and bound into position.
