Free Planting
Free and mingled planting offers a more natural and free-flowing style than framed or formal schemes. Unstructured and charming, sometimes even a little chaotic, free planting combines a wide range of plants in an attractive, informal way.
Whilst balance and uniformity are secondary considerations, there should be a feeling of abundant profusion and the overall effect should be harmonious in both form and colour.
These gardens are usually difficult to manage and are often the creations of enthusiastic gardeners who have the time and the inclination to develop wide-ranging collections of plants.
