Nemophila
Family: Hydrophyllaceae
Common Name: Baby Blue Eyes
These 11 species of annuals are mainly native to western and south-western North America. The species N. menziesii is probably the most widely grown and is used for edging borders and filling patio containers.
Species
N. menziesii, baby blue eyes, has small, bright blue flowers with white centers and ferny foliage. It grows 15-20 cm (6-8 in) high and flowers in summer.
Cultivation
Raise from seed sown where the plants are to flower, in early spring or, in mild climates, in autumn. Once in the garden they may self-sow. Nemophilas can be grown in any well-drained, yet moisture-retentive soil, provided it is reasonably fertile, and in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Keep well watered during dry summer spells to maintain flower display.
