Only one of the two species of climbing plants in this genus from Mexico is often seen in cultivation. This twining climber should be provided with wire, trellis or lattice for support.
Species
M. barclayana (Synonym: Asarina barclaiana) is a twiner that may grow 2-S m (6-16 ft) high, depending on conditions. The lobed leaves are vaguely triangular or heart-shaped. The tubular to trumpet-shaped flowers are bright pink to purple and appear mainly through summer into autumn.
Cultivation
Where regular frosts occur, grow in a cool greenhouse or conservatory or as a summer annual outdoors.:Mauraadva will grow in any type of well-drained soil, but growth will be vigorous if the soil is enriched with organic matter. It can be grown in full sun to partial shade. Provide ample water during dry spring or summer weather, but allow to dry out between waterings during the cooler months. Pruning should be confined to training or restraining too vigorous growth. Propagation is from seed or from firm stem cuttings, taken from late spring through summer.
