Guichenotia

Family: Sterculiaceae

There are five species in this genus of small, evergreen shrubs, all native to Western Australia. The foliage has a soft, downy covering and the small, open, bell-shaped flowers are mostly mauve.

Species

G. ledifolia, to around 70 cm (28 in), has small, mauve flowers.

G. macrantha is similar to G. ledifolia but grows slightly taller. It is very showy in summer, with larger mauve flowers.

Cultivation

In frost-prone climates, grow in an intermediate greenhouse or conservatory in pots of well-drained, soil-based potting compost. Ensure bright light. Outdoors they prefer a well-drained soil in an open, sunny spot. Propagate from semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
