Callicoma
Family: Cunoniaceae
Commmon Name: Black Wattle
This eastern Australian genus comprises only one species, an evergreen tree growing to 15 m (50 ft) in its native forest habitat, although much less in cultivation.
Species
C. serratifolia, a small to medium tree, 6-12 m (20-40 ft) under cultivation, has elliptical to lance-shaped, shiny, toothed leaves, woolly white on the undersides. The small, creamy yellow flowers, resembling wattles, have no petals, and appear in dense, round heads to 3 cm (1 in) in diameter. The seeds are borne in small capsules.
Cultivation
In frost-prone climates, grow in a cool greenhouse. Outdoors, Callicoma likes rich soil and plenty of moisture, with some protection from wind and heat. Propagation from seed and tip cuttings is quite easy.
Climate
