Aristotelia
Family: Elaeocarpaceae
Named for Aristotle, the Greek philosopher, this small genus of evergreen trees and shrubs is, with the exception of one species, native to New Zealand.
Species
A. serrata (Synonym: A. racemosa), New Zealand wineherry, has simple leaves, rose-coloured flowers and edible, dark red berry fruit. It grows to about 5 m (16 ft). It is a good hedging plant and does well in coastal gardens.
Cultivation
Aristotelia needs sheltered conditions, rich soil and a temperate to cool Climate. Propagate from cuttings of ripe wood in the autumn.
Climate
Aristotelia is suitable for zone 8 and above.
